RANDY & THE MORMONS
About
Randy & The Mormons is a Nashville-based indie rock band with neither a Randy nor a Mormon in sight. Formed in 2019 under delightfully chaotic circumstances, the band came together when lead singer Sam Rochford was invited to perform at Whiskey Jam’s “Sam Jam,” a lineup exclusively featuring artists named Sam. With no prior experience playing with a full band, she recruited John Paul and Jordan Williams from her Dungeons & Dragons group, and Huxley Rittman, her coworker at an un-named Nashville restaurant (no free press!), to join her on stage.
What happened next can only be described as musical alchemy: like Avril Lavigne (before she died and was replaced by a clone) and Fountains of Wayne had a baby on stage. A gay baby who could shred, write heartbreakers, and command a crowd.
Since then, Randy & The Mormons have built a cult following both IRL and online, known for their electrifying live shows, clever lyrics, and dangerously sexy dance moves. They’ve performed at standout showcases like The Gay Ole Opry, headlined Acme Feed & Seed’s Pride celebration, and continue to bring chaotic joy to every stage they hit.
Lead singer Sam Rochford is also an on-air DJ for Acme Radio Live, and the band’s presence on TikTok has earned them over 650,000 likes, thanks to their unfiltered charm, musical chops, and bizarrely specific inside jokes. These include, but are not limited to: being a Jimmy Buffett cover band that doesn’t play Jimmy Buffett, being the tallest band in Nashville, and, naturally, dressing like Mormons.
Sam once hosted a house show so packed that the joists under the floor cracked. She did not get her security deposit back.
